Holi Celebrations

The colorful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima which comes in February end or early March. Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. The colorful festival bridges the social gap and renews sweet relationships. On this day, people hug and wish each other 'Happy Holi'.

Holi celebration begins with lighting up of bonfire on the Holi eve. Numerous legends & stories associated with Holi celebration makes the festival more exuberant and vivid. Ritians rubbed 'Gulal' and 'Abeer' on each others' faces and whished each other happy “Holi”. Ritians played Holi outside the premises and wished each other. The feeling of festivity began a day before Holi. By the evening everyone at RITS was seen in different colors like blue, green, pink……..May this Holi brings lots of color and happiness in our life’s.

Carom Tournament

Carom has been an integral part of our life at RITS. It's the best stress buster. Carom tournament started with a great enthusiasm in the month December. People across the cubicles and departments participated with much of enthusiasm and eagerness.

As the New Year was approaching, everyone was in the mood of celebration and we got two reasons to celebrate the event. One the game came to an end with the finale of carom tournament and other New Year was so near. Trophies were distributed by the organizers to winner up team (Santosh Puri and Adwitya Baral) and runner up team (Dilip Kumar and Gaurav Srivastava) and consolation prizes to all the participants. Everyone shared pastries with each other and enjoyed the event to their fullest.

Saral Bhatnagar is a Team Leader of RITS Staffing Team. His favorite place of vacation is Munich's Oktoberfest... To know  more about him please read the interview as  conducted by Nishfun Nahar.

Did you know?

It takes the earth one day to complete one spin on its axis. The time it takes the earth to complete one trip around the sun is a year. But these units of time don’t divide evenly, resulting in our calendar year being 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and a little over 45 seconds long. Every 4 years we take those extra hours and minutes and fit it in an extra day, on February 29th, which we call Leap Day. Every fourth year thus is Leap Year. If we did not have the extra day every 4 years, in 100 years our calendar would be off by 24 days.

2012 is a Leap Year. As was 2008 and 2004 and the year 2000. Normally, a year that can be evenly divided by 100 is not a Leap Year but if it is divisible by 400 then it is. Thus the year 2000 was a Leap Year but the year 1000 was not and neither would be the year 3000.

Many a times we have gone through this story…but when we are in pain and struggle we don't remember this story.

'What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the Master calls a butterfly'
'A man found a cocoon and took it home to watch it emerge. One day a small opening appeared and for several hours the moth struggled but couldn't seem to force its body past a certain point. Deciding something was wrong, the man took a scissors and snipped the remaining bit of the cocoon. The moth emerged easily but its free to fly the moth spent its life dragging around a swollen body and shriveled wings.

Before a butterfly can emerge out of its chrysalis it has to go through a lot of struggling. Yes, struggling. Each time it lunges out to escape, acids are being removed from its wings. If someone were to come along and break the chrysalis open for it then the butterfly would die from those acids. In essence the struggle is necessary for the butterfly to survive. Then in the stillness, when the struggle is over, the butterfly can come out and share its beauty with the world.

We as humans are not any different as we are also part of the same universe and these rules apply to our life. There are times that we need to struggle and struggle very hard to come out of the cocoon and show ourselves to the universe, to rid ourselves of the acids that make up sadness, fear, and anger. It is only at this time when we are exhausted and still that we begin to hear the Universe whisper to us.

Health & Lifestyle

Health tips to follow if you work the night shift

Diet – Most people working the night shift have at least one or two meals at work. The danger here is of overstuffing yourself since food is readily available. If you’re working the night shift, try and finish as soon as possible. Between 12 midnight and 6 am, it’s best to eat light meals that are high in fibre and protein and low in sugar and fat.

Help yourself get a good day’s rest – When you get back home after a night shift, you may be so tired that you just crawl into bed. But take a few minutes to ensure that you get some undisturbed winks. Draw the curtains to shut out the sunlight as much as possible and turn off your phone. Check that your pillows support your neck and the mattress is not lumpy.

Sleeping tips – Try to get a big chunk of sleep in one go (at least 4-5 hours). If you break up your sleep in many smaller pieces, deep sleep will elude you and you will not be as rested as if you had slept at a stretch.

Watch the snacking habit – Most people working the night shift have sitting jobs; nine times out of ten in front of the computer. Keeping your facial muscles active by means of snacking and chewing may seem like fun but you are unwittingly consuming a lot of calories in the process. So if you must munch, avoid chocolates, chips and fried stuff, instead carry along a fruit or puffed rice that have a much lower calorie count.

Hydrate yourself – While working in an air-conditioned office it is important to keep drinking water as the skin loses moisture due to the air-conditioning and even slight dehydration can prevent you from functioning at your productive best. So keep a bottle of water on your desk and drink liberally. Remember that beverages like coffee and tea dehydrate so limit their intake. Have buttermilk instead. Sipping warm water is also a good idea as warmth keeps colds at bay.

Annual health checks – Visit your doctor and get an annual medical check-up done even if you do not have any complaints.
