Corporate Parable (Episode 1)

Karan and Arjun are two friends who interviewed on the same day and were shortlisted together for becoming recruiters. Finally, on the first day of the job, they were brought on board and their respective teams welcomed them to the company. They were ecstatic as they were assigned a seat and decided to meet for lunch and discuss how their day goes.

Arjun: Hey Karan, it feels great to be here. I just met with my team to discuss my role in the project. How about you?

Karan: I feel like it’s going to be a comfortable run here. My team members are also very interesting people. However I have my doubts about certain people who I have seen openly flouting the office rules.

Arjun: What did you see? It might have been an innocent mistake, we shouldn’t be quick to judge people so quickly! Karan: Well it was made clear to us that smoking, chewing gutka, pan or tobacco was not allowed anywhere on the office premises yet I saw someone chewing Gutka and spitting it into a cup on their desk.

Arjun: Well in that case, I am certain that such actions are nothing but a disaster waiting to happen. Never mind, let’s ignore that for now and have lunch as I’m famished.

A few days later, an incident occurs in the office and every conversation revolves around that in the cafeteria when they meet for tea. Arjun notices the excitement around and seems confused.

Karan: Did you hear about it?

Arjun: What happened! I was on call with a candidate for the last 2 hours and don’t have the faintest idea of what’s everyone talking about.

Karan: A member of staff who went to the washroom, slipped on the some spittle from some eaten Gutka and fractured his arm. If that wasn’t enough, he was wearing a white shirt which was smeared red when he fell down. He felt so insulted that he quit.

Arjun: Gosh! That’s sad. Well it seems rude to say “I told you so” now, but something like this was bound to happen.

Moral of the story: Don’t chew paan or gutka in the office, try to maintain a professional environment.
