  From the Director's Desk

2006 was a year of consolidation at RITS, which has paved way for a stronger RITS in 2007. A year, in which I expect lot of euphoria with strong result oriented activities, let us all be prepared for the challenge.

We all know that competition is increasing in every sphere of life…we need to organize and manage ourselves better to overcome such competition. We need to set up attainable objectives both in terms of quality and quantity during 2007; or else we would just be wandering in our quest to make RITS a lively place to work. As the great management guru, Peter Drucker opined "Objectives are not fate; they are direction. They are not commands; they are commitments. They do not determine the future; they are means to mobilize the resources and energies of the business for the making of the future."

We are aware of the objectives that are to be achieved by each operating and support division at RITS. Let us make a pledge to achieve and outperform the objectives set out for each of us. Together we can make RITS, the place every professional will dream to be in……lets work towards it.

Regards,

Pankaj Seth

 Events Update

The festival of Holi is celebrated on the day after the full moon in early March every year.

Originally a festival to celebrate good harvests and fertility of the land, Holi is now a symbolic commemoration of a legend from Hindu Mythology. The story centers on an arrogant king who resents his son, Prahlada, for worshipping Lord Vishnu. The king attempts to kill his son, but fails each time. Finally, the king's sister Holika, who is said to be immune to burning, sits with the boy in a huge fire. However, the prince Prahlada emerges unscathed, while his aunt burns to death. Holi commemorates this event from mythology, and huge bonfires are burnt on the eve of Holi as its symbolic representation.

RITS also celebrated Holi by wishing each other and putting colored powder (Abir). It was great fun and enjoyment for everyone. The occasion is remembered for universal brotherhood, which is the guiding force for enhancing the team spirit here at RITS.

 Did you Know?

The first ice cream parlor in America opened in New York City in 1776. American colonists were the first to use the term "ice cream". The name came from the phrase "iced cream" that was similar to "iced tea". The name was later abbreviated to "ice cream" the name we know.

The origins of ice cream can be traced back to at least the 4th century B.C. Early references include the Roman emperor Nero (A.D. 37-68) who ordered ice to be brought from the mountains and combined with fruit toppings, and King Tang (A.D. 618-97) of Shang, China who had a method of creating ice and milk concoctions. Ice cream was likely brought from China back to Europe .
